The Bois Family's trip to England

May 1, 1999 - London to Wisbech

While waiting for Al and Sarah to arrive, I went out on Euston Street and took some pictures of the church next to the hotel.
What I didn't know at the time is that this is a smaller version of the Porch of the Caryatids at the Acropolis in Athens.  I just thought it was really cool.

Sarah and Al arrived around noon.  We hopped the train to the suburban town north of London where Sarah grew up.  They had left their car near the train station and from there we drove for a couple hours to the northeast to a small town near Peterborough in Wisbech, where they live now.

Al and Sarah have two retired greyhounds, Rosie and Lady.  They have their own room and rarely left it except to eat and go for walks.

Lady was curious about us, friendly but a little distant.  She lived up to her name, with her "Grand Dame" demeanor.  Rosie, on the right here, is a nervous dog.  It took me a few days to get her to stay in the same room with me for a couple minutes.

Sarah cooked a lovely meal and, following dinner, introduced us to Red Dwarf.  It's since become one of our favorite television shows.

One of the things Danusia wanted to do while in England was to take a ride on a steam train.  Al did some research and found that there was one in Peterborough.  It was one of those trains to nowhere, meant for family outings in the country and it ran only on Sundays.  And since today was Saturday....
