The Bois Family's trip to England

May 2, 1999 - Peterborough

When we got to the train station, we found that it was pulled by none other than Thomas the Tank Engine.  We bought our tickets and found seats.  They were wood without cushions, but the gentle rocking of the train put me to sleep in no time.  Danusia hadn't been on a steam train since leaving Poland as a child, so she was thrilled.

Half an hour later, the train stopped at the Peterborough's main station for a few minutes before heading back to our starting point.  Al stayed on the train to go get the car, while the rest of us got off and walked into town.

Sarah had to run some errands, so we agreed to meet in the main square in an hour.  From the square, Danusia, Adam and I went through this archway to explore the grounds of one of Peterborough's landmarks.
This is St. Peter's Cathedral.  It was built by the Normans in the 12th Century.
The cathedral is surrounded by ancient graves.  Most of the tombstones are no longer legible because they've been eroded by the weather.
We met Sarah in the square and Al showed up not much later.  Back at their house, we played with the dogs and had a mini jam session (with Sarah on piano and Al and me on guitars) before going to dinner at a country pub called The Hare Arms.  It was packed, and not only because the food is great, but because it's the only pub in the area.
