The Bois Family Trip to Athens

Our Anniversary, more at the Acropolis

It's just serendipity that we would be in Greece on our anniversary.  We didn't really realize it until after we had booked the flight.  We usually don't do anything big to celebrate, but we'll probably remember this one.
We didn't rush out to go anywhere in the morning, deciding to let Adam sleep a little.  He must have learned it from the dogs.
Over breakfast, we had the idea that we should use the camcorder to get some footage that I might be able to use in a video.  Since the name of X Takes The Square's CD is going to be Goddess Of Cool, it makes sense to get some video of the goddesses on the Porch of the Caryatids.

We went at a leisurely pace, even stopping long enough for Adam to take out his Game Boy as we admired the Theater of Herodes Atticus behind him.  They still have concerts there.

Since we were taking our time, we noticed things we hadn't before.  Scattered around the grounds leading up to the gates are random relics.  I suppose it's possible that these are only reproductions, but they sure looked real.

After we finished at the Acropolis, we went to the Plaka for some lunch.  All through the Plaka, people's houses overlook the tavernas and shops.  These three second-story windows were above the taverna where we had lunch, watched by a cat.
And a good anniversary lunch it was, too.

I've been mentioning that the streets are narrow.  In the Plaka, some streets are really narrow.

And motorcycles!  I forgot to mention the motorcycles.  With streets this narrow and traffic this congested, it makes sense for Athenians to drive scooters rather than anything with four wheels.  They squeeze between buses at traffic lights and go really fast through tiny alleyways.  Be careful crossing the street, sometimes you don't see or hear them coming.  Some are louder than others but none of them resemble a Harley Davidson noise monster.
And this dog here was sound asleep, perfectly comfortable on a busy Sýntagma Square sidewalk.  The motorcycles, cars and buses didn't bother him, and neither did the pedestrians and people waiting for buses.

From Sýntagma, we took the Metro to Omónoia.  Since the tour bus drivers were on strike, we boarded a regular city bus bound for Sounion.
