The afternoon of March 19, 2001
Sounion |
| It took forever for our bus to get out of Athens and I fell asleep.
Danusia told me later that the countryside was beautiful but even if I
had been awake, I wouldn't have been able to take pictures of it.
This was a city bus, not a tour bus, and the windows hadn't been washed
in a while.
I woke up about half an hour before we arrived at Sounion, and the scenery was indeed beautiful. It reminded us both of Scotland - rugged hills strewn with rocks and little vegetation - only Scotland is green and Greece is brown. When we got to Sounion, this dog was waiting for us. |

Sounion is the southernmost tip of Attica, which means it's pretty much the southeast corner of Europe. Greece's islands go on for hundreds of miles but this is as far as you can walk. |
| And on top of this point of land stand the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon. |

Danusia found it was a good spot to sit and enjoy the wind and waves. |
