From Florida to Athens |
Actually, this story starts about ten months before we left. We visited Scotland in June of 2000 and our flight back landed in Atlanta where we transferred to a flight to Tampa. That second flight was overbooked, so the airline offered each of us $500 vouchers if we would wait two hours for the next flight.
Fast forward to January 2001, and we've had time to do some research. We used the vouchers towards round trip tickets to Athens. Subtract the voucher and each ticket cost us $75.
I was hoping we'd get bumped on this trip, too.
And since we had to use the vouchers within a year, we decided to go in March during Adam's spring break. Adam would have preferred to miss school and stay at home during break, but going when we did worked out just fine. Our last night there was the first night of tourist season, and the hotel rate doubled. It turned out to be a very inexpensive trip.
The night before we left, as we packed, we saw Shirley Valentine on TV. It's a movie about an English woman who's fed up with her life. She goes to Greece on holiday and decides not to go home. It's a very good movie.
Anyway, we noticed that the Greek men were wearing white shirts with a few buttons undone. Danusia said they looked good. Real good.
I removed my American T-shirts from my suitcase and packed some button-up shirts.
